Proposed Suggestion
Introduce a Skill Tag system that allows players who clear a map to assign one or more skill-based tags that describe the primary skills required to complete it. These tags would then be used across the site for advanced map discovery, filtering, and player skill profiling.
Reasoning
1. Star ratings do not explain why a map is difficult
Star difficulty is a useful aggregation, but it forces very different challenges into one value. Two routes with the same stars rating might ask for very different skills (aiming vs. endurance vs. route-finding skills).
2. Some players want to train skills
This would allow for these players to practice their skill sets and become an overall better player
3. Improves Map Discovery
HardClears already has a considerable set of existing data. The skill tags enable the site to:
Relevant surface content
Minimize noise when surfing
Create a sense of having a smaller, more manageable database
The first element in
Significantly, this does not mean pre-existing metrics (stars, death, time) are insignificant. It adds a level of meaning upon them.
4. Community Knowledge Is Currently Underutilized
Skill tags translation:
Experiential knowledge → collective knowledge
Subjective feelings → aggregated trends
This makes the site smarter without the need to have the moderators manually categorize the maps.
5. Enables New Player Insights Without Competitive Pressure
Every player doesn't want to compete either on speed or death count.
Skill tags enable players to:
Understand their strengths and weaknesses
Track growth overtime
Feel recognized for specializing in certain aspects: for example, endurance-focused players
This broadens the engagement beyond pure leaderboard competition.

Tags in general just make a lot of sense to add. Ideally they would be set by the mapper can be changed by victor opinions. Also having tags for difficulty consistency and length could help improve the user experience. Overall it just makes maps you want to play easier to find while also giving others an idea of what they are getting into when they find a map to play. Not really much of a downside.
I agree with the mapper setting the tags. Also length and difficulty consistency would also being amazing.
I just had this thought, but you can also put the tags on your profile to show the skills your most comfortable with.

i did already suggest for tags to be added to map pages and it was accepted. you wrote a hell of a lot more than i did LOL gg
I only found out after. Hopefully they accept this and expand on your idea.
